The Norfolk Wealth Project is a transformative initiative dedicated to bridging the racial wealth gaps within the City of Norfolk, Virginia.
Our mission is not just to identify the disparities but to actively forge pathways that facilitate intergenerational wealth and foster individual, family, and community financial stability. Rooted in historical understanding and a commitment to actionable solutions, we believe in building wealth and bridging gaps to create a more equitable future for all. Through comprehensive data collection and research, the project seeks to address the disparities and challenges faced by different racial groups in these areas, aiming for a more equitable wealth distribution in Norfolk.
Using the Integrated Capital Approach for Racial Wealth Equity (ICARWE), our research merges social and cultural capital theories to identify impactful levers to reduce disparities for Norfolk's Black community. Social capital focuses on networks and relationships, while cultural capital encompasses values around education and finance. Through this lens, we assess the historical systems that perpetuate wealth disparities, pinpointing actionable intervention areas.
The Recover Fund team uniquely blends quantitative and qualitative data, including feedback from Norfolk residents. Our expertise lies in predicting regional trends using census data, economic metrics, and policy analysis. Most crucially, our team excels in mobilizing diverse stakeholders for collective action based on these insights.
The Norfolk Wealth Project not only focuses on data analysis and research but also offers policy suggestions to bridge the racial wealth disparities in Norfolk. These proposals are drawn from extensive project findings. Through partnerships with local stakeholders and leaders, the project champions equitable wealth policies for a thriving, inclusive community.
